A yellow balloon drifts through the sky, full of something a man desperately needs but can't see.

He's busy. Successful. Surrounded by money he worked himself to the bone to make. His family is beginning to forget him. And joy keeps floating right past him.

Joy is a children's picture book written by Audrey Kai Yoon for her 6th grade English class when she was 11 years old. It's the story of a man who chases the wrong thing until the right thing refuses to leave him alone.

It's a book about a balloon. It's a book about a father. It's a book about what we're really working for.

When asked if the story is about her dad, Audrey says no. It's not about any one person. It's about finding balance and paying attention to the opportunities for joy that float right by us all the time.

For the Category Pirates community, this book is something a little extra. It's the view from inside the house. The version of the Fatherhood 2.0 story that doesn't come from the stage or the strategy session, it comes from a kid who was watching.

Written by Audrey Kai Yoon. Illustrated by Andrea Alemanno.
